Is The One Who Watches on Modrinth? Downloading it safely

Where the mod is actually published, and a short checklist for avoiding repackaged files.

Plenty of players prefer Modrinth for its clean interface and launcher support, so it's natural to look for The One Who Watches there. Here is what we found, and how to download the mod without picking up something you didn't ask for.

What we found on Modrinth

Pixel_Coder publishes The One Who Watches on CurseForge, under project ID 940557. The CurseForge page links to the author's YouTube channel and community, but it does not link to a Modrinth project, and we could not confirm an official Modrinth listing by the author at the time of writing.

That does not rule out one appearing later. If it does, the simple test is whether the Modrinth page is owned by the same author and links back to the same official channels.

Why reuploads are a problem

The mod is published under an All Rights Reserved licence on CurseForge. Unless the author grants permission, other people are not authorised to redistribute the jar. Reuploads also tend to fall behind on updates, rename files, bundle extras or sit behind ad-heavy pages. Even when a reupload is harmless, it does not support the creator.

Safe download checklist

  • Source: Download from the author's own project page or through a launcher that pulls from it, such as the CurseForge app.
  • File type: A Forge mod is a single .jar. Be suspicious of .exe or .msi installers, or archives that contain one.
  • File name: Current official files are named like TheOneWhoWatches-V1.4.4-1.20.1.jar. Odd names or extra words are a warning sign.
  • Versions: If a site offers a version the author never listed, such as Fabric or 1.21.11, that file did not come from the author.
  • No extra steps: You should never need to install a browser extension, complete a survey or disable antivirus to get a mod.
  • Scan anyway: Running a downloaded file through your security software costs a few seconds.

What this site's button does

The button in our download section points to the 1.20.1 Forge file hosted on CurseForge. We do not host or modify the jar ourselves, and we are not affiliated with Pixel_Coder. You can read more about that on our about page and in the disclaimer.

After downloading

Remember that the mod also needs GeckoLib, which you should get from its own official project page for the same reasons. Then follow the install guide.
