The One Who Watches 1.20.1 vs 1.19.2: choosing a build

Both builds carry the same mod version number. The right choice depends on what else you run.

A forked forest path with two signposts, representing a choice between two versions

The One Who Watches has two current files on CurseForge, both released on February 11, 2026 and both labelled mod version 1.4.4:

FileGame versionLoader
TheOneWhoWatches-V1.4.4-1.20.1.jar1.20.1Forge
TheOneWhoWatches-V1.4.4-1.19.2.jar1.19.2Forge

Because they share a version number and release date, the mod itself should behave the same on both. The difference is the Minecraft version around it, and that is what should drive your choice.

Choose 1.20.1 if

  • You are starting fresh and have no existing modded world to keep.
  • You want the newer base game, including the content added in the 1.20 update.
  • You are building a pack around other mods that target 1.20.1, which is one of the most widely supported modded versions.

The download button on this site's download section provides the 1.20.1 file.

Choose 1.19.2 if

  • You have an existing 1.19.2 world or pack you want to add the mod to.
  • Your server runs 1.19.2 and you do not control the version.
  • A must-have mod in your pack never moved past 1.19.2.

The 1.19.2 jar is listed separately on the mod's CurseForge files page.

Keep the rest of your setup in step

Whichever build you pick, everything else must match it:

  • Forge built for that version (47.x for 1.20.1, 43.x for 1.19.2).
  • GeckoLib built for Forge and that version, as explained in the GeckoLib guide.
  • Java 17, which both of these Minecraft versions use. The official launcher bundles the right one.

Moving an existing world between versions

Upgrading a world from 1.19.2 to 1.20.1 is generally possible in vanilla Minecraft, but modded worlds are riskier: every other mod in the pack has to upgrade cleanly too. Downgrading a world is not supported by Minecraft and often corrupts chunks. Copy the world before trying either.

What about 1.21?

There is no 1.21 build listed at the moment. We cover that separately in our 1.21 and 1.21.11 status page.
